Torquay Animal House Vets and Geelong Animal Emergency clinic have seen and have been treating cases of PAPP (fox bait) poisoning in pet dogs over the last couple of weeks.

Baits have recently been laid on the Surf Coast (between Torquay and Point Lonsdale)  and owners need to be extremely vigilant when walking on beaches and in areas where baiting has occurred.
All areas of baiting are signposted with warnings, but baits can be carried and moved by wildlife, so wider caution outside of these areas is recommended.

If ingested, PAPP can be fatal very quickly, so immediate veterinary attention is crucial. It is also important to note that symptoms are not always exhibited by animals after ingesting this poison, so a timely response if you suspect your pet has eaten bait, is absolutely imperative regardless of if they are exhibiting any changes in behaviour or not.
